An established and growing contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute professional to play a key role in delivering major civil engineering, drainage and utility infrastructure projects while contributing to the continued growth and success of the business. The successful candidate will support the delivery of projects across all commercial aspects of the business, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, profitably, and in accordance with contractual requirements.
The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for:
Identifying commercial risks and opportunities while carrying out value engineering exercises.
Preparing and managing material procurement schedules.
Promoting contractual awareness and ensuring robust contract administration, including maintaining contractual records, notifications and change control.
Preparing internal cost/value reports and detailed commercial reports for senior management.
Reviewing and updating risk registers, variation trackers and extension of time records on a monthly basis.
Preparing and reviewing project cost reports.
Attending monthly management meetings, providing commercial updates and recommendations.
Managing subcontractor procurement, negotiations and account reviews.
Liaising closely with the accounts department on commercial matters.
Reviewing supplier requisitions, accounts and subcontract documentation.
Preparing subcontract documentation, payment certificates and appointment documents.
Measuring, pricing and negotiating project variations.
Monitoring project costs, resolving commercial queries and ensuring budgets are maintained.
Managing commercial and contractual relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
Assessing subcontractor payment applications and processing payments.
Carrying out cost-to-value reconciliations and forecasting project performance.
Supporting and mentoring junior Quantity Surveyors.
Identifying opportunities to maximise revenue, reduce costs and minimise commercial risk.
Advising on contractual matters at both project and business level.
Preparing and managing contractual claims and associated documentation.
Assisting with project cash flow management and commercial correspondence.
Negotiating subcontractor and supplier agreements, pricing and final accounts.
Ensuring timely preparation and agreement of final accounts.
Producing accurate monthly cost reports and commercial forecasts.
The ideal candidate will possess:
A minimum of 6 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying role within the construction or utilities sector.
Essential experience within civil engineering, drainage, water or electrical utilities.
A professional qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or equivalent.
Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts.
Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office.
A full clean driving licence.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
The ability to work independently while also leading and supporting a team.
Excellent commercial awareness and strong negotiation skills.
The ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and maintain exceptional attention to detail.
Strong planning, budgeting and time management capabilities.
Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder management skills with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors.
