An established environmental consultancy is seeking an experienced
Senior Environmental Consultant to join a growing
Circular Economy & Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) team in Ireland.
This is a senior-level opportunity combining
environmental compliance, programme and client management, regulatory engagement, auditing and inspections, and team leadership. The successful candidate will take responsibility for significant environmental compliance programmes, act as a key client contact, and support the development of environmental services across Ireland.
The position will involve travel throughout Ireland.
The Role As Senior Environmental Consultant, you will act as a technical advisor and programme manager across key environmental compliance contracts.
A significant part of the position will involve managing a
national environmental compliance audit programme associated with an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme. You will act as a primary client contact, coordinate programme delivery, undertake compliance audits and oversee environmental professionals carrying out audit activities across Ireland.
You will also have responsibility for work involving
inspections under the Solvents and Decorative Paints Regulations, ensuring consistent and high-quality delivery and maintaining effective relationships with relevant regulatory stakeholders.
The role also provides the opportunity to develop client relationships, contribute to business growth and mentor environmental professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Programme & Client Management - Lead the delivery of significant environmental compliance programmes for key clients.
- Act as the principal point of contact for major client accounts.
- Manage programme resources, budgets, timelines, performance and deliverables.
- Identify opportunities to improve and develop existing services and support wider business development activities.
Environmental Auditing & Inspections - Plan, coordinate and undertake environmental compliance audits throughout Ireland.
- Manage national audit and inspection programmes and oversee the quality and consistency of delivery.
- Review audit and inspection findings and reporting outputs.
- Ensure activities are delivered in accordance with relevant legislation, contractual requirements and appropriate quality standards.
Regulatory Compliance & Advisory - Interpret environmental legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Provide clients with practical environmental compliance advice and guidance.
- Review compliance information, data and regulatory submissions.
- Identify, assess and support the management of environmental compliance risks.
Stakeholder Engagement - Develop strong working relationships with clients, regulators, industry representatives and other stakeholders.
- Act as a senior representative on key environmental compliance contracts.
- Present findings, recommendations and programme updates to clients and stakeholders.
- Support relevant training, guidance and communications.
Team Leadership - Manage, mentor and develop a small team of environmental professionals.
- Support employee development, performance and technical capability.
- Encourage knowledge sharing and best practice across the wider environmental team.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be an experienced environmental professional who can combine
technical environmental expertise with programme leadership, client management and people development.
You should be comfortable engaging directly with clients and regulators while also remaining involved in practical delivery, including environmental audits and inspections.
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Sustainability, Engineering or another relevant discipline.
- Significant experience in environmental consultancy, environmental compliance, regulatory programmes or a related field.
- Experience managing environmental projects, programmes or contracts.
- Practical experience undertaking environmental audits, inspections or compliance assessments.
- Strong understanding of relevant environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks.
- Strong client and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience managing, supervising or mentoring colleagues.
- Excellent report writing, communication and organisational skills.
- Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel throughout Ireland, approximately 25% of working time.
Desirable Experience
Particular interest will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Producer Responsibility / Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes.
- Circular economy programmes involving packaging, WEEE, batteries or other regulated waste streams.
- Engagement with the EPA, local authorities or other environmental regulatory bodies.
- Lead Auditor qualification or equivalent auditing experience.
- Planning, coordinating or managing national audit, inspection or environmental compliance programmes.
- Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) experience.
